UPCOMING
EVENTS AND PROJECTS:
1- Information
Technology Programs for High School.
We hope to start
offering computer-training programs to high school students by May
2004. Our focus is in marginalized rural schools where more than
90% of the students have never had the opportunity of seeing a computer
leave alone using it. We have submitted several proposals to different
International Organizations requesting for computer donations and
so far, two American Organizations (WCE and Digital Aid Inc.) have
expressed interest in our program. We hope, by God's grace that
we shall go through. If you would like to get involved in this project
in any way, kindly contact us for more details.
2- Legal
issues.
Due to the dream
that we have, we strongly feel that the Kenya Government should
support our initiative in any way possible. As a result, we have
requested the Kenya Government to grant our organization a tax-exemption
status certificate. We have not yet gone through and the struggle
is not easy but we believe we shall acquire that status soon. This
status once acquired will make it easy for other organizations in
other parts of the world to partner with us and support our initiatives.
3- International
Youth Conference on Humanism in Uganda.
Networking and
exposure is a very strong learning method. That's why IHEO have
organized a 5 days conference starting from May 25th, .The conference
will be held in Kampala, Uganda. It is meant to give young people
the opportunity, to meet, exchange ideas and learn from each other.
We in TAG- Kenya have already expressed interest in taking part
in the conference and we hope to send at least one representative.
4- Training
and in servicing of Volunteers.
Due to the technical
challenges we are facing in our work, we have found it wise to have
our volunteers trained in various relevant fields to empower them
to be able to respond more effectively to challenges communities
are facing. We hope to have 2 volunteers trained in Social Work
and Welfare, 1 volunteer trained in Counseling, 1 volunteer trained
in Project Planning and Management and 1 volunteer trained on Gender
and Women Empowerment. Each volunteer requires US$ 550.00. In total,
we need US$ 2750.00. If you would like to take part and Sponsor
this initiative, please contact us and we shall be glad to give
you more information on how you can help.
5- Purchasing
of a Project Vehicle.
Working in the
rural areas can be challenging and even discouraging especially
when there are no means of transport and one is forced to walk for
miles and miles on foot. As a result of this, we are planning to
buy a project vehicle (preferably a four wheel drive) to help us
be more effective in reaching the unreached. This will be at a cost
of about US$ 13000.00. Any support given towards this project will
be highly appreciated. Kindly contact us for more details.
6- Setting
up a Community Resource Center.
Through our
own experience and research, local C.B.Os, Youth Groups and Women
Groups have stressed how difficult it is for them to access useful
information that would facilitate the achievement of their objectives.
As a result, we are in the process of setting up a community resource
center at a cost of US$ 2200.00 (for a start) that will focus on
gathering, storing, and disseminating information to grass root
C.B.Os, Women groups and Youth groups using modern methods and technologies.
The center will also act as a fundraising Center where local development
initiatives will be trained on things like Proposal writing, Internet
fundraising, Project planning, implementation and management and
other relevant, practical and essential issues.
The center will offer Internet access, library services, project
consultancy and community training and capacity building to the
beneficiaries.
7- Our plan
of action (January to April).
Our schedule
is fully packed and it seems that, this will be a very busy term
for us. We plan to: -
i. Offer computer skills to about 120 youths through our mobile
computer-training program for marginalized communities.
ii. Offer guidance and counseling sessions to 18 youth institutions.
iii. Offer 3 demonstration workshops on juice making, yogurt making
and business management to 3 different youth groups.
iv. Offer leadership-training workshop to two youth groups.
v. Train 3 C.B.Os on proposal writing and project management.
vi. Have a charity camp in a children's home during the April holidays.
vii. Hold a one-week seminar for high school students during the
April holidays addressing social issues such as boy-girl relationships,
teenage pregnancies, abortion etc.
